Homer Vance worked at shops including Grand Canyon Village. This belt buckle appears to be a RARE NEW NEVER WORN VINTAGE BELT BUCKLE. Currently items from the 1970’s are considered “Vintage” today. HOMER VANCE WAS BORN IN 1882 AND HE DIED IN 1961, THEREFORE, HIS LAST PIECE OF WORK WOULD BE 54 YEARS OLD! THIS BUCKLE COULD BE 5 YEARS FROM BEING A LEGITIMATE 100 YEAR OLD ANTIQUE IF HOMER VANCE MADE IT WHEN HE STARTED PRODUCING PIECES FOR SALE IN THE 1920’S. Regardless of semantics, this is a magnificent hand crafted hand stamped vintage CORAL CLUSTER belt buckle weighing a heavy 109 gms and fitting belt straps from 1¼” to 1½” wide. The buckle is a legitimate rare Vintage item from a famous 19. I t is at least 54 years old but still looks new or unused. CONSTRUCTION: This buckle has multiple raised stamped designs (Repoussé) in stamped raised ovals, stamped raised rays, and throughout the buckle details. ¼” OVAL TRACK AROUND INNER CORAL CLUSTER; a 1/8″ wide raised FLAT Silver strip sets the outer border or perimeter of this buckle. 32 RAYS ½” – 5/8″ from 2. Oval of inner cluster to 1/8 from inner edge of outer border. The HORIZONTAL measurement of the inner first oval horizontal track is a width of 1¾. A second oval track is ¼” further from the center than the first oval track, or 2″ wide horizontally. Inside this ¼ between tracks are numerous raised (Repoussé) detailed stamped crescent designs surrounding the raised inner cluster. Without knowing how this piece was made I’d take a guess that there were two pieces of 3 ¾” x 2 7/8″ silver, 1/32 thick. All the stamped designs and repoussé work was performed on the top piece. When the design was complete, the top and bottom 1/32 pieces of silver were fused, welded, or soldered together to give the smooth inside without the indentations that accompany repoussé work. This fusion of two 1/32″ thick halves yields the 1/16″ width of this buckle and accounts for it’s heavy 109 gm. HALLMARK: “H STERLING V”; “STERLING” is in the body of a left facing fish.
