This doll, like all the others I make, is completely hand made. Her outfit is mostly recycled mink, from a mink coat, with some ringed seal, Beaver, and Badger in there for contrast. The Inupiaq people are the ultimate recyclers, and always have been. My Aana (Grandmother) was given a mink coat as a gift by my grandfather when they got married. She wore it a few times the way it was meant to be worn, but thats just not practical for our weather up here. Right now our chill factor is -35, and thats warm! So, she took it apart, took the liner out, sewed up the front, attached a fur hood, turned it inside out, put a cloth cover on the outside, a fur ruff on the hood, and she had a warm parka suited to the Arctic for over 40 years!
