Here is one of the most gorgeous fire agate gemstones I have ever seen, artistically set in a beautiful hand made sterling silver pendant!! The pendant is signed LB with a thunderbird. It is the hallmark for the Les Baker Shop in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Les employed some of the finest jewelry makers at the time and his shop was renowned for the highest quality jewelry using some of the finest gemstones available. This pendant was probably made by a Navajo artist, such as Harry Sandoval or Fritz Toledo, or possibly Les Baker himself (anglo artist). The pendant has a Mexican Fire Agate gemstone that has two distinct “fire bubbles”. This one is particularly colorful with rare purples, blues, greens and yellows!! The photos are taken in sunlight streaming through a window, and are not enhanced. In average indoor lighting, the gemstone appears to be dark brown and very glossy. When viewed from different angles, the “fire” changes and is fascinating to watch. The fire agate is a sacred stone to the Navajo. They have been using it in their jewelry for a long time. The gemstone is only found in the southwestern USA and northern Mexico, in volcanic areas. As you can see on the right side of the gemstone there is just a little bit of light colored host rock – not a chip or a flaw. The silver work on this pendant is very beautifully done, with elegant leaves, or feather, tendrils, a flower, and rain beads. The pendant is about 1 3/4 including the bale, and weighs 8 grams. This is a high quality, rare, collectible pendant that is definitely unique and one of a kind! Items are enlarged to show detail. Coin used for size reference only.
