SUPER OLD PAWN NAVAJO JACLA EARRINGS MADE INTO A CHOKER TURQUOISE CORAL & SHELL – The Navajo choker necklace you are viewing was transformed from a very old pair of long Jacla earrings. The earrings have the traditional tapered turquoise beads and shell at the bottom. The irregular shapes of each bead tell you that these were a very old pair of earrings to start with and their length were so long they could later be made into this choker. It is hard to believe that a Navajo woman would have placed these originally through holes in their ear lobs at such a length and weight and most likely why they were later made into this wonderful choker necklace. Small coral and matching red beads may have been added as well as the clasp at a later date. The Old Pawn piece has years of patina and the most beautiful assortment of turquoise used throughout both strands. The entire beads of this necklace is fully handmade. Dating back to the 1920s. If you were to stretch the choker out from end to end it measures approximately 15 inches including the clasp. As mentioned in my description above, the necklace at some point was transformed from a pair of traditional Jacla earrings and restrung into a choker necklace containing a silver clasp. The necklace has never been cleaned, as my mother always loved her Native American silver jewelry to have the natural patina.
