This is for a life size Native American baby doll and papoose (cradle-board). As pictured she has a suede dress, headband, diaper, moccasins and cradle-board. Dress, headband and cradle-board have extensive yet tasteful seed bead work. The cradle-board is wood and the bent wood above baby’s head is ash wood. Cradle-board measures 21.5 x 17.5. There is even a piece of wood inside the papoose as pictured in the last pic. She is hand made and it was a group effort of 4 Ojibwa (means, voice from the north) Indians. She is in excellent vintage condition. The bent ash wood above the baby’s was put there in case the cradle-board was dropped or fell over. This was a way to prevent the baby’s head from hitting the ground. My grandmother’s name was Dorothy Winifred Goodwin. She fought all the way to the supreme court for American Indians to have the right to both sides of the American/Canadian boarder. She won & this right was entered into the “Jay Treaty”. She also worked along side Chief Clinton Rickard. If interested in the story, google (Dorothy Goodwin Jay Treaty) and you will find many legal documents. Including the time she unjustly spent in the “House of Good Shepard’s” (a nunnery for detained women) for fighting for rights.
