The Sleeping Beauty Mine is located in Globe, Arizona and this very popular turquoise, among the Zuni Native Americans in particular, is now closed. Navajo artist Larson Lee created this amazing piece and the back is stamped with his full name and “sterling”. The stone is surrounded by a handcrafted bezel of twisted rope and cutout work. This rosette required additional time and ingenuity to create an optical illusion that makes the center design look square. In the middle are the crossed paths of the four directions. This is achieved by using chevrons, the symbol for mountains. Outside of these are eight over sized medicine eyes placed so that an eight sided star is formed in the negative space. There are thirteen dangles, each representing one of an Eagle’s tail feathers, to give balance. On the neck-piece, I made three different sizes of tube beads. Each mimics a section of the rosette itself. These were done using a single bead brick stitch. The diameter of the rosette is 3 1/2 inches, the dangles are 2 inches and the neck piece is 22 inches long including the clasp. The stained leather on the back is clear coated to assure no color transfer on clothing or regalia. Description: A great, natural green turquoise and sterling silver cluster bracelet with hand-stamped detailing! This bracelet is very well-made and has a great weight to it (made from melted silver ingots). The stone color is unique (and is changing shades of green due to age). It would make a great stacker bracelet – but just as easily can be worn on its own. Tested as sterling silver, or at least coin silver. Vintage Navajo in style.
