Here for sale is an exquisite one-of-a-kind hand made/Native American made(Cherokee -Tsalagi) Wampum (Quahog) necklace. The necklace consists of hundreds of pieces of wampum all hand shaped, but and drilled. All the pieces have a beautiful dark purple hue many with stripes and other natural patterns making them very striking. The wampum pieces are of 2 types. The main pieces are cut like elongated triangles. They do in fact, resemble sharks teeth in a way! Like giant incisors but they are not sharp. All are rounded smooth and high polished. The other wampum pieces are small squares. In between the “teeth” and squares are very tine white/shiny pearl beads. So it is strung square, tiny pearl bead, tooth, tiny pearl bead, square, etc… The wampum is so highly polished that both the purple and the white shine with a translucence like glass. They seem to emanate a light from within and truly have a jewel like quality to them! Towards the top or “neck” area we have several Alpaca silver, or Tibetan silver ball beads, then Hand made beads from the Lightening Whelk shell (also very traditionally used by Eastern Band tribes) They are white with a light brown spiral swirl emanating out from the center. Then more alpaca silver beads and a couple of long ornate alpaca silver beads with flower & star motif. Then a couple more tube style whelk shell beads to finish the piece off. There is a lobster claw clasp to hold it all together and it is strung on strong plastic covered beading wire. Should last a long time! The necklace is reminiscent of a plains style bear claw necklace at first glance…. ! Not only that, but this necklace is modern day representation of ancient cultural peoples and traditional ways hand crafted by a tribally enrolled Native American. All the drilling needs to be done by extremely skilled & experienced hands under water. This helps to cool the shell so it does not crack and also reduces the dust (Which can be toxic if inhaled) while drilling and shaping! It is no easy task to make even just one bead! A necklace of this type and quality and take up to the better part of a year to create. The necklace you see pictured is the exact one you will receive.
