Santo Domingo Pueblo Necklace Native American Hand Made Jewelry Heishi Navajo
Stunning Santo Domingo Pueblo hand made necklace. Made of natural bright hand polished multi-colored Turquoise, Mother of Pearl, coral beads with natural brown heishi shells as separators and tips. Made to last as heirloom jewelry. Domingo is a member of the Santo Domingo Pueblo tribe, New Mexico. Santo Domingo Pueblo is named for St. Dominic, the village celebrates an annual feast day on August 4th of each year to honor him. On that day, residents of the Pueblo and other pueblos participate in traditional corn dances. Santo Domingo Pueblo is located in Sandoval County, New Mexico, about 25 miles (40 km) south of Santa Fe. Most of the residents of the Pueblo are Native Americans who speak a dialect of the Keresan Language. Much of the Santo Domingo jewelry made today is very similar to Anasazi jewelry found in digs at Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde. Some of the jewelry found in these digs is more than a thousand years old. Santo Domingo Beads are very fine and of high quality grade, some of the best heishi on the market. The word “Heishi”, is from the Keresan word meaning “shell, ” and traditionally referred to shell beads. Traditional tribal art work, intricate details. A definite conversation piece. Total length: 33 inches (end to end) Weight: 48 grams. Collectible quality work of art, passed down for centuries within the Santo Domingo Pueblo tribe. A special complement to any collection! Pueblo artist, Tony Garcia, did a fantastic job on this piece. The large stone is a magnificent example of the stunning green of King’s Manassa turquoise and is surrounded by a man size bezel with cut out work, stamping and rope. The heavy, comfortable and wide shank is accented with sunrise and weave silverwork on each side. It’s crafted entirely of sterling silver. The stone and silver bezel measures 7/8 inch tall by 7/8 inch at the widest point. The King’s Manassa Mine is no longer in production so this great ring won’t last long. This beautiful Pueblo Indian (Southwestern Indians) breast plate is made according to Native American tradition can be worn or displayed in your Indian art collection and is very well made. This warrior breastplate is hand made using genuine bone hair pipes with soft leather spacers and fringe. It also has a shell disk adornment on the front, coned fringe and prayer feathers. Traditionally, hair pipe bones were expensive and hard to find so the number of bone rows in the breast plate was a sign of the warrior’s wealth or status. Called a warrior’s breast plate and intended as armor, American Indians wore them in battle, but they were mostly decorative, used for ceremonies or medicine. Breast plates made by Native Americans make great wall decor for rustic home or office decoration for southwest, Native American decor or western ranch, log home or cabin. Measures 12 tall, 12 wide. Authentic Native American, Tribe: Navajo. A breastplate is worn over the torso to protect from injury, an item of religious significance, or as an item that shows status. The long bone beads are called hair-pipes, made with bones from a buffalo, bird, or manufactured then assembled by the Indians. The top of the breast plate is tied around the neck with a string or a leather strap, and others at the bottom secure it around the waist. Hair-pipe bones were difficult and expensive to obtain long ago and today as well, the number of bones a plate often indicate the wealth of the warrior who wore or wears it. Breastplates were worn on occasion in battle, to prevent being penetrated by an bullet or an arrow, so mainly breastplates were decorative or as a medicine item. Breastplates were worn by Indians warriors for ceremonial dress, as ornamentation or to display wealth. The Native American Indian Artists use only genuine feathers, furs, bones, beads, leather, wood, stone, etc. In the making of each work of art. There is nothing artificial used unless it is required by law. No parts of animals such as bones, feathers, etc. Are from any animals considered endangered. NO RESERVE 3 PIECE SANTA CLARA PUEBLO POTS ALL SAME ARTIST. There are 3 pieces in total the larger black and grey pot which measures around 3 inches tall. The pot with the scorpion on it is around 1 3/4 x 1 3/4 as the 3rd one with the chicken is around 2×2 perhaps a little larger as you can see compared with the other 2 pots. All 3 pots were beautifully designed and etched by an artist “RT”which are the initials carved into the bottom of each pot. Also on the bottom of each pot is a number which from what I have learned stands for the date the pot was made. One has 691 carved in the bottom with the artists initials, which stands for the 6th month and 1991. Same for the other 2 just different numbers. I did some research to find an artist Ray Tafoya and was able to go through and see he has some similar work to these pieces. Love just looking at them as they are museum quality. All the featured etchings the chicken, scorpion, beautiful native American designs. All 3 have been displayed in a glass display case with other pottery and native American art so all 3 pieces are as perfect as they come. The item “Rare 3 piece Santa Clara Pueblo Sgraffito Hand Made Pottery Signed RT SEE” is in sale since Saturday, July 23, 2016.
