This rosette required additional time and ingenuity to create an optical illusion that makes the center design look square. In the middle are the crossed paths of the four directions. This is achieved by using chevrons, the symbol for mountains. Outside of these are eight over sized medicine eyes placed so that an eight sided star is formed in the negative space. There are thirteen dangles, each representing one of an Eagle’s tail feathers, to give balance. On the neck-piece, I made three different sizes of tube beads. Each mimics a section of the rosette itself. These were done using a single bead brick stitch. The diameter of the rosette is 3 1/2 inches, the dangles are 2 inches and the neck piece is 22 inches long including the clasp. The stained leather on the back is clear coated to assure no color transfer on clothing or regalia.
