NATIVE AMERICAN FLUTE BY “RAVEN” CHARLES KING, CHEROKEE DESCENT. “Raven” Charles King is of Cherokee descent from the “Long Hair Flowing People” clan now known as the “Wind blowing” clan. He was a traditional flute craftsman, musician, and an educator of the Red Road. He was born and raised in Vermont. At the age of 14 while other teenagers were listening to rock and roll, Raven was making his first flute. Unbenounced to him he was listening to his spiritual calling and found the art of flute making innate. This flute was made from a piece of old barn wood that his father had torn down. From this experience he began his journey of making flutes. In the 70’s he traveled across the U. To the wilds of Montana. With his wife Brenda in hand, and awaiting the arrival of their daughter, they settled in the sleepy little town of Deer Lodge. Here was born Rainbow Frog Flutes. All and I mean ALL of Raven’s Flutes are completely handcrafted with handcrafted tools, no power tools, not one, were used in any part of his creations. This one is crafted out of Cedar, and at one time I had one that was out of Birch. As a flute is created Raven allows the individual spirit of that piece of wood to immerge and in doing so each flute has its own personal size and tone quality. Each flute he crafted is as original as you or I. Raven does not pick which piece of wood to use, the wood picks him. There were many times he has sat down to create a flute out of black locust and an old red cedar fence post will call him from across the room, and the next flute born to Rainbow Frog flutes: is a red cedar flute as this one that is being offered. There is a theme to this one, the story of the fox and the owl, and the grape vine along the side of the flute. The fetish is soapstone carved ingeniously as a fox one side and an owl opposite. Tied on with brain tanned deer leather. This flute is amazing as the holes are all the same size and all equal distance, and it plays like a concert tuned flute in the Key of G. It is a rare flute and hard to find available any of his flutes now as they are sought after by many flute collectors. This flute was made 2003, one of his last. Charles died of cancer and his wife died a year later. The item “Native American Flute Key of G, Raven Charles King, Cedar, hand made” is in sale since Friday, September 7, 2018.
